Kindergarten Math Activities

 

JUNE

 

1.        Count the number of toes in your family.

2.        Start at 10 and count backwards by 1s.  How did you do?

3.        How many pockets on the clothes you are wearing?  Count and write that number.

4.        Bounce a ball.  Count how many times it bounces.

5.        Find 2 sticks.  Which one is longer?  Can you find another stick that is the same length?

6.        How many jumping jacks can you do in one minute?

7.        Say the days of the week.  What is today?  What was yesterday?

8.        What is your favorite shape?  Make a picture using those shapes.

9.        Line up 10 of your toys.  Which one is first?  Third?  Eighth?  Tenth?

10.    Count out 12 crayons.  How could you share them equally with a friend?  Draw a picture.

11.    Talk about yesterday, today, and tomorrow with a family member.

12.    What is your favorite season?  Draw a picture of that season.

13.    Put a puzzle together.  How do the shapes of the pieces help?

14.    Make your bed.  What did you do first?  Next?  Last?

15.    Practice writing numbers.  How high did you go?  Are the numbers in order?

16.    Sing your favorite number song.

17.    Look in a magazine.  What shapes can you find?

18.    Find a graph in a newspaper.  Make up a story about the graph.

19.    Collect treasures from outside.  How could you sort your treasures?

20.    Make a pattern using your body.  Try one like clap, hop, hop, clap.

21.    Are you wearing a pattern?  Tell someone about the pattern.

22.    Choose a pencil.  Find things around the house that are longer.  Shorter.

23.    Set the dinner table.  What patterns did you use in arranging the table?

24.    Help unpack some groceries.  How could you place them in groups?

25.    What is your favorite thing to do?  Ask a friend.  Make a graph using this information.

26.    Make a pattern.  Have a friend or family member continue the pattern. 

27.    How many different kinds of triangles can you draw?  Try this with sidewalk chalk.

28.    Look at family pictures.  How many eyes do you see in each picture?

29.    What is your favorite number?  Why is it your favorite?

30.    Count the light switches in your home.  How many did your count?

 

 

 

 

 

 

JULY

 

  1. Keep a weather calendar.  Draw a picture of the weather for each day next week.
  2. Run around your house 4 times.
  3. Scoop up a handful of rocks.  How many do you think you can hold?  Count them and see.
  4. Start at 13 and count as high as you can.  Write the last number you counted.
  5. Share a plate of crackers between 2 people equally.  How many did each person get?
  6. Go on a shape hunt around the house.  What shapes did you find?  Draw them.
  7. Draw a large shape on a piece of paper.  Cut it out.  Cut it into 5 pieces.  Put it back together.  
  8. Take a hike with an older family member.  What shapes can you find?
  9. How many shoes are in your closet?  Write the number using your favorite color.
  10. Circle all the numbers you can find on newspaper or magazine covers.
  11. Blow up a balloon.  Try to keep it in the air for 2 minutes without touching the floor.
  12. Fill a tray with a thin layer of salt.  Draw circles using your finger in the salt.  Draw triangles.
  13. Count the number of steps from your bedroom to the bathroom.
  14. Go on a pattern hunt.  Look for patterns in each room of your house. 
  15. Line up your family members from youngest to oldest.  Who is first?  Last?
  16. What is your favorite ice cream flavor?  Each family member gets 2 scoops.  How many scoops is this?
  17. Gather 10 objects.  How many ways can you sort them?
  18. Watch the weather on TV.  What numbers do you see?
  19. Use your sorting skills to help put the dishes away after dinner.
  20. Look at a thermometer.  What numbers do you see?
  21. Fill a small bag with grapes.  How many do you think are in the bag?  Count and see.
  22. Game night!  Play your family’s favorite game
  23. Put a puzzle together.
  24. Draw a picture using only rectangles.
  25. Make snakes using play dough.  Compare their length.
  26. Find 3 different pots.  How are they alike?  Different?
  27. Line up your toy cars/dolls.  Which is fourth?  Sixth?  Last?
  28. Grab a handful of cereal.  How many pieces do you think you can hold?  Count them.
  29. Play Simon Says – use words like over, under, behind, beside.
  30. Write the numbers to 10.
  31. Game night.  Play a game with your family.

 

 

 

 

AUGUST

 

 

  1. Use a snack to make a pattern.  Try one like bite, chew, chew, bite.
  2. Count the number of days until the first day of school.  Write that number.
  3. Count the number of people you see on TV in one minute.
  4. Draw rectangles on a paper.  Color 3 blue, 4 red.  How many are not colored?
  5. Fill a string with pasta shapes.  How many pieces did you use?
  6. Use play dough to make numbers 1-10.
  7. Make a number collage.  Use old newspapers or magazines to find lots of numbers.
  8. Ask a friend to lie on the floor.  Line up crayons to measure the friend.  How many?
  9. Game night!  Play your family’s favorite game.  What rules were used?
  10. Draw 12 circles.  Color 3 red, 4 blue.  How many are not colored at all?
  11. Play the card game “Go Fish”.
  12. How many fingers would you and 2 friends have total?
  13. Puzzle day!  Try making a puzzle using an old coloring book page.  Put it back together.
  14. Mary has 4 balls.  Jack gives her 2 more.  How many does she now have?
  15. Talk about yesterday’s weather.  Is today’s weather the same or different?
  16. Three hats.  Two feathers on each hat.  How many feathers total?
  17. Bound a ball five times.  Bounce it two more times.  How many bounces in all?
  18. Line up your friends from shortest to tallest.
  19. Lay across a small rug.  Is the rug longer or shorter than you?
  20. How many rectangles can you find in your bedroom?
  21. Play a counting game in the car.  How many numbers do your see?
  22. Make some collections of ten things.  What did you collect?
  23. Find something that is smaller than your shoe.  What did you find?
  24. Take turns counting to 20 with a friend.
  25. Draw a picture of your favorite animal.  How many colors did you use?
  26. Go to a library with a family member and look for a number book.
  27. Make toast with an adult’s help.  Divide the toast in half.  What shapes did you make?
  28. How many weeks until your birthday?  Use a calendar.
  29. How many weeks until your favorite holiday?  Use a calendar.
  30. Can you find more things in the shape of a circle or rectangle around your home?
  31. How many buttons are you wearing?  How about a friend or family member?  How many in all?
