Both he and fellow eighth grader, Clay Hoon, made it to the championship round. Seventh grader, Alan Garber took home the third place trophy. The preliminary round saw eighteen students – three from each grade level team, answer more questions correctly than ever before!
Austin will now take a rigorous written exam to see if he qualifies for competition next month at the state level.

Emily Lewis Memorial At 2:30 today a ceremony was held at Lee Burneson Middle School to honor Emily. The 7th grade students and teachers came up with the idea of commissioning a local artist to create a sculpture. Five of Emily's closest friends each got up and spoke very eloquently about their memories of Emily and what she meant to them. The sculpture was then unveiled for the first time. As you will see from the photo, it is a book with horses on it, butterflies flying off the page and "In Memory of Emily Lewis" inscribed on the pages. The girls said that the book was a symbol of Emily's love of reading, the horses symbolize her love of all animals & Flying Horse Farms and the butterflies symbolize her joy and freedom from cancer. It is made of stainless steel and will "travel" with her class as they move on to the high school. When her class graduates, the sculpture will be presented back to us. We were of course very honored and touched by this beautiful display of love for Emily
