Costa Rica, a Brief History

Amidst the political instability of many nations in Latin America, Costa Rica enjoys a working democracy. Costa Ricans enjoy peace and freedom of speech. That's the way it's always been. Costa Rica, as a nation has been nominated twice for the Nobel Peace Prize. The honor of that sought-after accolade was given to Costa Rican former president Dr. Oscar Arias Sánchez in 1987, for his tireless efforts to bring peace to the Central American region during the 80s, when those nations were politically shattered by civil wars.
