The Department of Academic Services is responsible for directing and implementing curriculum and instructional policy for K-12 for the Westlake City Schools. Our department is responsible for the development and management of curriculum, selecting and purchasing textbooks, educational materials, student performance/assessment, technology, and providing instructional support through professional development. The department is responsible for the coordination of state and federal programs, Limited English Proficiency and gifted services.
The Department includes the Associate Superintendent of Instruction and Director of Academic Services. The Associate Superintendent of Instruction (7-12) is responsible for managing and coordinating the curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development across the district with a special focus on 7-12. A key member of the superintendent's leadership team, the position provides system oversight, consistency and vision for a majority of activities related to teaching and learning and facilitates implementation of the district's mission and goals. The Associate Superintendent supervises Academic Services, Student Services and Technology; develops systematic approaches to improving student achievement based on testing and observation; works with outside agencies to meet all students' needs; and assists in implementing federal and state educational mandates.
The Director of Academic Services is responsible for managing and coordinating the curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development with a focus on K-6.
