2026 Communication for Summer EBT

What is Summer EBT?
Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer Program for Children (Summer EBT), also known as SUN Bucks, began in summer 2025 and provides grocery benefits to low-income families with school-aged children when schools are closed for the summer. Summer EBT benefits will either be loaded to a household’s Ohio Direction Card or a benefit card will be sent in the mail in a plain white envelope addressed to each eligible child.

Families will receive a one-time benefit of $120 for each eligible child and can use the money to buy food during the summer at grocery stores, farmers markets, and other authorized retailers.

How Summer EBT / SUN Bucks Works
The $120 annual Summer EBT benefit will automatically be sent to households for each student who is identified due to participation in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Ohio Works First (OWF), and some income-based Medicaid. The benefit will be loaded to an Ohio Direction Card or a Summer EBT benefit card. Students that are eligible for the first time will be mailed a Summer EBT benefit card in a plain white envelope addressed to the child.

Schools are a vital part of making Summer EBT, also known as SUN Bucks, successful. Please review the Summer EBT Fact Sheet by clicking HERE. After reviewing and you still have questions regarding the program please visit https://sebt.ohio.gov/. Please do not contact your child(ren) school or administrators with questions regarding the program.

Know if your student is pre-approved for Summer EBT. Your child(ren) may already qualify for Ohio Summer EBT benefits. Many school districts are required to submit eligible students for benefits each year. Westlake City Schools had submitted the required documents already.  If you feel your child(ren) was eligible and haven't received the benefits by July 31 please contact EBT at 1.866.386.3071.
