Bassett Elementary School is a five-year public elementary school (grades Kindergarten through 4) with an enrollment of about 440 students.
Curriculum: Bassett Elementary School challenges students to reach for high goals academically, socially and personally. Subjects are taught using a variety of proven instruction and data-based strategies.
Gifted: The Westlake Instructional Network for Gifted offers a resource room and enrichment materials at the elementary level.
Special Education: The Westlake City Schools offer a legally mandated continuum of services for special needs students. Students are serviced within the least restrictive environment in a cross categorical manner.
English as a Second Language: The purpose of the ESL program is to provide students with additional services and interventions in order to help them progress towards grade level curriculum objectives.
Second Language Learning: The emphasis of this program is not on one specific language, but rather on the attainment of second language skills and the brain development benefit that results from this emphasis; the nature of how it broadens cultural understanding and the fact that attaining a second language has shown to greatly increase the probability of expanding to further languages. The French language is used at Bassett to achieve these goals.
