D.A.R.E.
DARE/SRO & Youth Services
The Westlake Police Department offers the Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program (D.A.R.E.) to our local city schools, as well as two private schools. The program uses uniformed Officers to deliver key prevention lessons to students. Presently, lessons are offered to students in grades Kindergarten through 5th and 7th. The K-4 lessons focus on personal safety (think Safety Town) and the safe use of medications. The 5th-grade lessons are the core of the DARE program. Lessons include: Introduction (to DARE), Drug Information for Responsible Decision Making, Risks and Consequences, Peer Pressure, Dealing with stressful situations, Basics of Communication, Nonverbal Communication, Bullying, Helping Others & Getting Help from Others, Being safe with Prescription (Rx) and Over-The-Counter Medicines (OTC), and Vaping.
