Academic Challenge team practices occur once a week from late fall to early spring. Students are asked questions about various academic topics and use a system to buzz in their answers. Team members are expected to regularly attend practices and compete in tournaments. Students have been very successful competing in local, state, and national tournaments. In the fall of 2015, LBMS finished first in the 3-2-1 National Academic Competition.

Aevidum is a student-run club that helps empower students to be advocates and catalysts for change in their school and community, raising awareness about the importance of social inclusion and making sure LBMS is a community where everyone feels acknowledged, accepted, appreciated, and cared for. The group is intended to be a space where students develop friendships while learning about diversity, inclusion, and how important a sense of community is to good mental health for all.

Book Club meets once a month during the students' lunch to discuss the book that we read the prior month. All books are provided to the students by Porter Library. Our goal is to promote literacy and a love of reading.

Builders Club is a community service club, related to Kiwanis, that works toward helping people, groups, businesses, and charities. Our goal is to help make our community and world a better place by volunteering and giving to others. We work on one service project a quarter, such as Toys For Tots, food pantry collections, sending donations to the military, etc. To join Builders Club please contact Mrs. Bowles or Mrs. Sherban.

Burneson Brigade is an audition based show choir that performs at school concerts and throughout the community. All LBMS Students are welcome to audition. Students that are selected must be a member of 7th grade or 8th grade choir, be able to attend rehearsals on Wednesdays, and attend all performances.

The LBMS Drama Club: Performers, artists, and interested parties are welcome! Sign-up and auditions start at the beginning of the school year; crew helps create sets, props, & costumes. All are welcome and there is a place for everyone interested in participating. Rehearsals will be held 3-4 times per week for approx. 9 -12 weeks with a performance at the conclusion of the season.

Auditions are open to all 7th & 8th grade LBMS students.

To audition, a student will sign up for one 5 minute slot for one of the audition days. 

Audition dates will be:

• Mon. Sept. 16 4:30-6:30 pm
• Tues. Sept. 17 6:00-8:00 pm
• Thurs. Sept 19 5:00-7:00pm

Auditions will be held in the LBMS Choir Room.

If a student wants to participate in CAST ONLY they can sign up as cast only; they do not need to audition. 

The cast and crew list will be emailed to each student using the Westlake student email account on Friday, Sept. 20 by the end of the day.

Rehearsals will start Tuesday, Sept. 24. All rehearsals will be held every Tues, Wed. & Thurs 4:30-5:30 in the LBMS Choir Room.

Tech week begins Monday, Nov. 11 6:00-8:30pm on the stage at Westlake Elementary School and runs all week (M-Th).

Performances will be held:

• Sat. Nov. 16 at 7:30 pm
• Sun. Nov. 17 at 3:00pm

All performances will be held on the stage at WES.

The goals of the environmental club are to create a positive environment for students to learn more about nature, to create connections among students, and to increase student ownership in creating positive changes at school. We have created a compost program for food waste, we help maintain our native garden and outdoor classroom, and we go on nature walks to learn about the wildlife in our own backyard. This is a joint club between students at both DIS and LBMS.

The LBMS Jazz Band is open to any 7th and 8th grade band members who are interested in performing Jazz, Rock, Latin, and Pop music outside of the traditional concert band setting. Piano, guitar, and bass players are also encouraged! The Jazz Band meets on Thursdays after school and performs at school concerts and community events.

Math Club meets in LBMS Media Center from 2:45 until 3:30 pm every Friday.  Participants will discuss math concepts that may be outside the standard school curriculum.  The material will be geared towards preparing the students to compete in the AMC 8 (January) and AMC 10 (November) individual contests and the MathCounts grades 6-8 team competition (February).  The year finishes with discussions of math related concepts that the students suggest.

Science Olympiad competes in Science (STEM) tournaments from December through April. Some events have set practice times, while others are student driven. Tournaments are held on Saturdays. Parent involvement is encouraged.

Ski & Snowboard Club is for students in grades 6 -12 who would like to learn to ski or snowboard as well as experienced skiers and snowboarders. An informational meeting is held in November for students who are interested. Members of our school program are required to take lessons each week until reaching an advanced level. We travel on 5 consecutive Fridays (weather permitting) starting near the beginning of January. There are 200 spots available and registration is on a first come first serve basis, with all necessary paperwork completed.

School Student Council is a dynamic and inclusive club that empowers students to actively participate in shaping the school community.  Officers and representatives plan school-wide activities, fundraisers, and community service projects, and serve as the leaders in the building. Elections for leadership positions will be held annually.  All students are welcome to join Student Council as a representative in the fall. Meetings are held twice a month after school.
