Westlake Council of PTAs
Welcome from the Westlake Council of PTAs!
My name is Sarah Hughes and I'm thrilled to be serving as the President of the Westlake Council of PTAs (WCPTA) for the 2025-2026 school year. As a proud parent of a senior, a freshman, and a 5th grader in the Westlake City School District, I've been a PTA member since 2010. I am also a third generation Westlake alum and a former educator. I hope I can bring a unique perspective to this role and I'm excited to work with our district administration, PTA members, volunteers, and community partners to achieve our mission and goals for all students this year.
Have questions? We're here to help! Feel free to reach out to me at wcptapres44145@gmail.com or any member of the WCPTA board.
WHO WE ARE: The Westlake Council of Parent and Teacher Associations (WCPTA) of Westlake, Ohio is a volunteer umbrella organization supporting five unit PTAs within the city and the Westlake City School District. WCPTA is affiliated with the National Parent Teacher Association, the oldest and largest association devoted to child advocacy in America.
MISSION: To make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.
GOALS: To be a powerful voice for all children, a reliable resource for families and communities and strong advocate for the education and well being of every child.
VOLUNTEERS: Giving over 6500 hours of service in 2024-2025, our diverse and dynamic group of volunteers is composed of parents, grandparents, other devoted family members, as well as teachers and school staff members who share a commitment to collaborate with school staff/administration and community partners to improve the education, health and safety of all children.
PROGRAMS, SERVICES & EVENTS: While supporting programs, services and events of five unit PTAs, WCPTA is able to support its own programs, services and events through various fundraising events like the student vs staff basketball game (formerly known as Dollars for Scholars and undergoing an exciting rebrand for 2026!), flower/plant sales and direct donations. Every year, WCPTA and our PTA units work hard to fundraise. Collectively, we are able to provide at least fifteen $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors. The building units also award thousands of dollars to fund staff grants that directly impact critical curriculum initiatives from Pre-K through grade 12. In collaboration with district staff, teachers and community partners, our PTAs are able to financially support programs like STEM Fest, a Wellness Fair, Diversity Week, Kindness Run, hosting an author visit, art shows, Veterans Day events and more, serving our mission to make every Westlake child’s potential a reality.
MEMBERSHIP: Benefits of membership are endless! It is truly what you make of it. At its foundation, all members get the opportunity to connect with other families and school staff, and really get to know what is going on in the school community while building rapport and discussing issues directly with the change makers. Membership won’t give you any extra to-dos. What it does give you, however, is voting rights, which shape the direction of programming, services, and events supported by the PTA.
