Important Notice to Parents Regarding Elementary School Enrollment & Assignment/ Overflow
The Westlake City School District strives to maintain class sizes that support quality educational practices. This practice has implications for enrollment, particularly at our neighborhood elementary schools. To the maximum extent possible, we strive to maintain class enrollments of no more than 25 students per section in our kindergarten through fourth grade classrooms. Once a class section has reached the 25 student limit, that section is capped and students enrolling after that time will be overflowed or assigned to another section of that grade level elsewhere in the district. As such, in an overflow scenario, the date and time of your completed registration may impact which neighborhood elementary school your child will be assigned to attend for the upcoming school year.
The district utilizes enrollment data and transportation considerations in determining overflow placements annually. Transportation is provided by the district for each student subject to this overflow placement. Overflow assignments are made on an annual basis and the enrollment is reevaluated throughout the year based on fluctuations. In the event that a section drops below the 25 student limit, parents of the next overflow student will be contacted and given the one-time opportunity to return to their home school.
